In December of 2008, Broadsided published my poem "Late" as a broadside. Their mission is, in part, to "to create something both gorgeous and cheap. We want to put words and art on the streets." Broadsided sends a poem out to artists, who then "bid" on doing the artwork that will accompany the poem on the broadside. I thought the artwork for my poem "fit" the mood of the poem, but compared to other broadsides published by Broadsided, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the final result (it's certainly not "gorgeous"). If you visit their website you will find many pairings of artwork and poetry that do meet the "gorgeous" threshold, however. For each pairing, Broadsided conducts an interview with the poet and artist. You can find my interview here. Overall, this was a unique publishing experience, and one I'd be happy to participate in again.
